Aqua Nibii Waawaaskone is a strong Indigenous woman who honours her hand drum teachings from her mom and the many Elders who have guided her on her journey. She crafts her circles with traditional, contemporary, and original hand drum music. Infusing teachings of her Anishnawbe heritage and continuous life lessons. Her circles are known to heal and open the heart to creating music purely for the joy of creating. Take a look at Aqua's website and get a taste for her original hand drum music from her album Hand Drum Stories. www.aquamusic.ca

Anthony M. Lee is an Asian Art dealer, consultant and educator working with museums, auction houses and universities. An alumnus of UTS class of ’86, he was originally immersed in the Taiko world in Japan 25 years ago and played for 8 years with Goryu Taiko, 6 years with Kaiju Daiko in Chicago, and established UTS Bakudan Daiko almost 10 years ago. His drumming is based heavily in the Tokyo O-Edo Sukeroku style, with many elements of Kodo and the modern tradition added in over the years.

Taiko is a Japanese traditional performing art, a rarity in Canadian schools, focusing on performance, movement and rhythm. It can be delicate and yet explosive in energy, the rhythms based on folk festivals and artistic philosophies. Even more challenging is that of all the music components presented, Taiko is one of the only ones that is completely based on an oral tradition - everything has to be memorized and nothing is written down. Body movement and natural rhythm replace sheet music. UTS has a decade-long tradition of Taiko drumming, and two groups from UTS have won Kiwanis Festival Platinum Awards.
